Who’s ready to sit down and enjoy some great jazz music?

Music Monday this week is all about jazz, as the Michigan Jazz Festival is happening this weekend in Livonia. The festival will feature some of Michigan’s finest jazz performers.

Today on ‘Live In The D’, Tati was joined by Vincent Chandler and his band, The Vincent Chandler Experience, to talk about what to expect at the upcoming event.

Vincent said it was the event’s 27th anniversary and always takes place on the third Sunday in July. It’s a free festival that will host seven stages with more than 40 bands. The festival will feature musicians from across the state, which makes the festival so unique. From solo piano to large bands, you can experience it all and everything in between.

Vincent said there will be an educational component, where starting at 9 a.m. there will be vocal jazz clinics and entrepreneur clinics to help support up-and-coming jazz artists. Along with his performance, Vincent will lead the Michigan Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band. He said there’s no better feeling than getting all the passionate high school kids together to perform the professional music of the legendary Roy Hargrove Big Band.

The Experience Vincent Chandler has been playing all original music for over 30 years. The name was given to it by the Charles H. Wright Museum and it has stuck with Vincent ever since.
