Tokyo Rose’s musical cast announced
The cast has been revealed for the upcoming production of Tokyo Rose, which
Written by Maryhee Yoon and Cara Baldwin, the show is based on the story of war disc jockey Iva Toguri, who resided in Japan during World War II.
The play won the Edinburgh Untapped Award and Les Enfants Terribles Stepladder Award, and was staged in 2019 as part of the Edinburgh Fringe after a first stint at the Derby Theater.
Appear in the show Maya Britto in the lead role, Kanako Nakano in The Aunt / Ensemble, Lucy Park in Papa / Fujiwara / Ensemble, Yuki Sutton in Mama / Collins / Ensemble, Cara Baldwin in Dewolfe / Cousens / Ensemble and Amy Parker in Brundidge / Judge / Together.
Directed by Hannah Benson, the play has an additional book by Jonathan Man, Hannah Benson and William Patrick Harrison, dramaturgy by Haruka Ueda, Benson and Man, composition by Harrison, vocal arrangements by Benson, production by Tanya Agarwal, set design by Luke W Robson , lighting by Holly Ellis, production management by LBRDR, costume by Erin Guan and advertising design by Rebecca Pitt.
The show will debut at MAST Mayflower Studios on September 16, before moving to Southwark Playhouse in London (where it will run from September 23 to October 16). After that, the tour stops include Curve Leicester, North Wall in Oxford, Corn Exchange Newbury, and Birmingham Racecourse.
WhatsOnStage said the play saw “an all-female ensemble sing the punchy, rap and pop-y tunes of William Patrick Harrison with incredible energy and a lot of talent.”
