Live jazz music returns to Knoxville Market Square on Tuesdays in September

Knoxville, Tenn. (WATE) – Live music shows return on Tuesdays in September to Market Square for nightly jazz jams that are sure to commemorate the end of summer as the season ends.

The city presents four free jazz concerts on the Place du Marché on Tuesdays, September 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The concert series aims to showcase Knoxville’s “stellar jazz community,” according to the city, which includes many instructors in the University of Tennessee School of Music’s esteemed jazz program.

The concert series begins September 7 with a trio led by guitarist Jack Roben, continues September 14 with trombonist Don Hough’s octet and concludes with two nights of saxophonist Greg Tardy’s quartet on September 21 and 28.

Concert attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and encouraged to follow COVID-19 safety measures, including wearing face masks, physical distancing, and using hand sanitizer.

Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the market square, but can be purchased and consumed in the premises of the town center shops.

Free parking is available after 6 p.m. at all city-owned parking garages, including Market Square, Locust Street, State Street garages, as well as the non-city-owned Langley Garage.
