Jazz music, arts and crafts and more at the Minerva Festival

The 10th annual Brick Street Art & Jazz Festival takes place on Minerva’s historic North Market Street on May 14, featuring a wide range of musical styles, as well as hands-on art activities for all ages, food and entertainment. Arts and crafts.

Professional bands scheduled to perform include Henrique Alvim at 12:30 p.m., playing Brazilian jazz guitar; Erbo & the Buzz Factor at 3 p.m., playing jazz with steel drums; and the Big Band of the Alliance Symphony Orchestra 5-7 p.m.

Live music will begin even before the festival officially opens, with saxophonist Denny Ott playing during setup at 10 a.m. rock and jazz bands from Northwest High School, at 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.; and the Minerva High School Jazz Band at 4:15 p.m.

The festival will offer a wide variety of interactive arts activities for all ages. Hands-on projects will be provided by the Minerva Public Library, SPARK, and the Children’s Art Zone, sponsored by the Minerva Area Federal Credit Union.

Other activities will include the traveling magic of Tim Angeloni, from noon to 2 p.m.; balloon creations by Joe Delagrange, 2-4 p.m., sponsored by Consumers National Bank; origami from Cirque du Papier by Michael Roy, 4-6 p.m., drum circles at 1 and 4 p.m., a giant xylophone, a public typewriter, a knitting circle, the Art Bus, etc.

Throughout the festival, artists will demonstrate their skills, including woodturning, pastel drawing and wool processing.

Shops in downtown Minerva will be open and many artists and artisans will be selling their work, ranging from jewelry to handmade soaps, scrubs and lotions, fabric and wood creations, decorative items and much more .

Food will be available including sandwiches from Candlelight Catering, baked goods, hot corn, French waffles and lemonade. Village DORA will be in effect during the festival, and DORA drinks can be purchased at Sandy Springs Brewing Co., Que Pasa Mexican Restaurant, Stoney Inn, and Normandy Inn.

Admission to the festival is free and it will go ahead rain or shine.
