Jarvis Replaces Point for Team Canada at Winter Olympics (2026)

Team Canada's Brayden Point, a star player for the Tampa Bay Lightning, has been ruled out of the Milan Cortina Olympics due to a lower-body injury. Point, 29, hasn't played since Jan. 12, when he injured his knee against the Philadelphia Flyers. He was placed on injured reserve and moved to long-term IR this week. Point had been skating since Saturday in the hopes of returning for the Olympic tournament, which begins Feb. 11. However, Team Canada announced that forward Seth Jarvis, 24, would replace him. Jarvis, who was on Canada's roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off, has 25 goals and 18 assists in 48 games for the Hurricanes this season. Despite his impressive performance, Jarvis was left off the Olympic roster. Point, who had 30 points in 37 games for Tampa Bay this season, joins Anthony Cirelli as the second Tampa Bay player to be pulled from the Olympics due to injury. The Canadian men have won gold in the past two tournaments involving NHL players, and the Milan Cortina Games mark the first time the NHL is sending its players to the Winter Olympics since 2014. Jarvis, when asked about his chances of making the Olympic team, humorously replied, 'I think I blew that opportunity already. I'm just trying to play the best hockey I can for the Hurricanes.' Jarvis' focus is on his team, and he's determined to win, whether it leads to an Olympic call-up or not.
