A significant figure involved in the 2012 assault on a U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the tragic deaths of four American citizens, has been apprehended and is now facing charges in the United States, according to officials from the Department of Justice.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that Zubayr al-Bakoush arrived at Joint Base Andrews at 3 a.m. on Friday and will be prosecuted in federal court located in Washington, D.C. However, details regarding how long he had been in custody or the location of his arrest remain undisclosed.
"Al-Bakoush will now face American justice on American soil," Bondi stated emphatically.
Al-Bakoush is facing an eight-count indictment that includes serious charges such as the murders of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and State Department staff member Sean Smith, attempted murder of Special Agent Scott Wicklund, as well as arson, highlighted U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro.
At this time, it remains unclear whether al-Bakoush has legal representation.
