A weekend of big band and jazz – Sheridan Media
The Eric Richards Big Band will present a free weekend of jazz concerts and big band dancing.
This two-day event is supported by the John B. and Dorothy D. Duncan Foundation in conjunction with the Sheridan College Foundation.
The group is led by Sheridan College composer, arranger, trombonist and director of jazz groups and studies Eric Richards and is made up of some of Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Washington’s top music educators.
During his appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Richards spoke a bit to listeners about the Eric Richards Big Band.
According to Richards, the group is excited to collaborate with Alycia Duprey of Wyoming as a guest vocal soloist. Duprey is well known throughout the region as a world class singer and violinist in the fields of jazz, classical music and crossover. As part of her set, she will perform the premiere to Sheridan of her song “One True Love”. You can discover more of Alycia’s music at www.alyciaduprey.com. Sheridan’s musicians participating in this concert are Dave Knutson and Diane Knutson on trumpet, Max Marquis on saxophone and Eric Richards and Erin Schanzenbach on trombone.
With so many talented musicians, the concert will feature original music as well as favorite classics.
The two-day event kicks off Friday, July 30 at 7 p.m. at the Kinnison Concert Hall, Whitney Center For The Arts, Sheridan College.
It will continue the next day, Saturday July 31 at 7 p.m. with MOONLIGHT SWING! Big Band Dance outdoors in the Whitney Commons Park GAZEBO in downtown Sheridan.
Both events are free and open to the public.
