2022 Maruti Baleno vs. Honda Jazz

Here is a detailed spec sheet comparison between Honda Jazz and the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift
The “new age” Maruti Baleno went on sale recently, and it has already gained decent popularity in the Indian car market. Thanks to the update, the sedan not only looks better from the inside out, but it also gets a lot of extra features, making it noticeably more premium than before.
Honda Jazz is one of the major competitors of Maruti Baleno in the Indian market. Here we have compared the specs of these two cars, to see how they compare.
Maruti Baleno vs Honda Jazz – Exterior design and dimensions
The exterior design of Maruti Baleno is extremely sporty, especially compared to the previous model. The updated version gets sleeker headlights, redesigned taillights, redesigned grille, new two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome window liner, chrome door handles, sporty front bumper with a large air dam, etc.
Honda Jazz has a tallboy design, with an MPV-ish silhouette. The vehicle features dagger-style LED headlights, a large chrome-trimmed grille, a sporty front bumper with stylish fog light housings and a gaping front air dam. It also gets Volvo-inspired taillights and 16-inch single-tone alloy wheels.
Dimensions | Maruti Baleno | Honda Jazz |
Length | 3990mm | 3989mm |
Lenght | 1745mm | 1694mm |
Height | 1500mm | 1,544mm |
Wheelbase | 2520mm | 2530mm |
Honda Jazz has a slightly taller height and a slightly longer wheelbase, while Maruti Baleno is longer in length and width. The latter’s fresh design also has better road presence, especially compared to the aging Honda.
Maruti Baleno vs Honda Jazz – Interior Styling and Features
Maruti Baleno has seen major changes in interior design. The dashboard has been completely redesigned, with a standalone infotainment system and sleek air vents, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel is also offered. The two-tone black and blue interior color scheme, with silver inserts all around, gives the car a very premium look.
The list of equipment is quite long now; premium trim offers 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), Suzuki Connect (connected car technology), Amazon Alexa support, Arkamys surround sound system , 360 degree camera, head-up display, keyless entry and departure, air conditioning, cruise control, etc.
The interior of the Honda Jazz has also seen only minor changes over the years, like the exterior. It has a driver-centric design, with the center console angled towards the driver. The dashboard features large air vents on the sides and sleek vents in the center. The multi-function steering wheel is a round design, while most rivals now have a flat-bottomed one.
In terms of equipment, the Honda sedan does not have much. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), rear parking camera, climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and start, and more are available, but rear air vents , connected car technology and a few other premium features are missing. An electric sunroof can however be installed, which is very good.
Maruti Baleno vs Honda Jazz – Engine and transmission
Maruti’s top-of-the-line sedan is powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, with a peak power of 90PS and a peak torque of 113Nm on tap. Transmission choices include a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. An idle start-stop system is offered as standard here, for better fuel economy.
Technical specifications | Maruti Baleno | Honda Jazz |
Motor size | 1.2 liters | 1.2 liters |
Type of engine | Naturally Aspirated, Inline-4 | Naturally Aspirated, Inline-4 |
Max. Power | 90PS | 90PS |
Max. couple | 113Nm | 110Nm |
Transmission | 5-speed MT / 5-speed AMT | 5-speed MT/CVT |
Honda Jazz offers only one engine option – a 1.2-liter NA petrol engine, which delivers 90 PS and 110 Nm. It can be equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. Previously, a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel powertrain was also available, but this was dropped before BS6 emission standards began.
Maruti Baleno vs. Honda Jazz – Awards
Maruti Baleno is quite competitively priced, starting from Rs. 6.35 lakh to Rs. 9.49 million. Honda Jazz is more expensive, with its price ranging from Rs. 7.71 lakh to Rs. 9.95 lakh. While the space on offer is good on both, the Maruti has a longer list of features (apart from the sunroof), making it a better deal overall in our opinion.
